Britain gives Sudan days to meet demands
Thousands of people in 35 countries marched to protest against the continuing humanitarian crisis in Darfur (Most Newspapers). Desertification has increased tensions and some Arab Militia groups have turned against the government (The Independent). What were meant to be temporary refugee settlements are now beginning to show signs of permanence (The Times). The British foreign secretary, Margaret Beckett, has warned Sudan that it is to face tougher sanctions if it continues military operations in Darfur (The Guardian). More than 4 million people are relying on humanitarian aid to exist (The Times).
