Sudanese President Umar Bashir categorically ruled out Friday night any dealings between Sudan and the International Criminal Court that has indicted two Sudanese nationals including a cabinet minister for war crimes in Darfur.
"As for talking about the ICC, we are not members in the Rome Protocol, and the issue of the court does not concern us from near or far. We have nothing to do with it," Bashir told a press conference in Rome at the end of three days of talks with Vatican and Italian government officials. The press conference was broadcast live by Sudan's Omdurman TV.
"Anybody who talks about the court or about trying a Sudanese national, this is talk which is not worth anything to us in Sudan, not worth anything," Bashir repeated in deliberate, even tones.
"We are not members in this court. We have no relationship to it and it has no relationship to us, thanks to God," he said.
